In 1980, I started the academic study in the Department of Horticulture, Konkuk University and received a Bachelor degree in 1993. On the same year, I was accepted for the MS program of the Department of Horticulture at Konkuk University at Seoul, Korea. From 1993 till graduation, I worked as research assistant participating in technology development for slope revegetation of the highway and turf establishment of airport.

I obtained an MS degree In 1995 on seed mixture for slope revegetation of the road under Dr. Hong, Seong-Kwon. I worked on breeding, establishment and management of turfgrass as a junior researcher at Animal Resource Research Institute in Konkuk University from 1995 to 2000 for a five-year compulsory military service. I also worked on modification of sand-based soil media with organic and inorganic soil amendments as a visiting scholar at Dept. of Iowa State University, USA in 1996. I had published more than 10 research papers in Journal of Korea Turfgrass and Horticulture or in International turfgrass Society from 1993 to 2001. I also authored two books on turf of garden and athletic field. I developed cultivars 'Konwoo' in bermudagrass and 'Konhee' in zoysiagrass and also submitted 7 patents.

From March, 2001 I performed my Ph. D. programme in selection of new turfgrass cultivars 'Konhee' and 'Konwoo' for athletic turf fields at Konkuk University. I also developed the techniques of new turf establishment, LSD(leaf and stem dressing) and MLD(mixed line dressing).

I was also appointed as turf team manager in KV bio, Inc., since January, 2001. The main tasks evaluating and release of new cultivars, development of technology for turf establishment and management, and their commercialization for athletic fields, landscape area and golf course and so on.

The main results of my research are described in this dissertation.
